Emo Hairstyles

Being 'emo' is a state of mind. There is a different attitude, fashion, and hairstyle. People who are emo refuse to conform to society's rules and laws, and they basically use their hairstyles and fashion to express the way they are feeling. That's why the look of an emo person might change from one day to the next. Here are some things that go into emo hairstyles.

Color:

Emo hairstyles are almost always an unnatural color. Most of the emo people will choose to color their hair jet black, and the bolder, the better. This is because an emo person wants to express their feelings and emotions. If they are in a particularly dark mood, they may choose to leave the hair completely black. Most, however, will color parts of their hair, such as the layers, the tips, the bangs, or the sides with a color to express their emotions. Some of the different styles that have been seen are frosted, dyed or highlighted tips, bangs or layers. An emo person will really choose between all of the different colors, but some popular ones are red, frost, and purple.

Cut:

Emo hair styles are often a-symmetrical. It's not about the hair being straight or even. It's about being able to project feelings, emotions and thoughts. That's why you will often see emo hairstyles that are uneven, shaggy and a-symmetrical. Sometimes, one side might be longer than the other, or all of the layering is at different lengths. Really, if an emo person is choosing a new hairstyle, they should think of their mood. It doesn't matter if the hair looks wacky or uneven because what person do you know with emotions that are always perfectly calm and straight?

More:

You probably won't find emo hairstyles that incorporate hair pins, hair ties, ribbons or any other kind of hair accessory. Usually it's all about the cut and the color, but sometimes an emo person will wear a clasp up front in the bangs. It's pretty rare, but the whole idea of having an emo hairstyle is to express yourself, so if you're in the mood for a hair clasp, don't shy away from the idea. Emo hairstyles are meant to be 'outside the norm,' and that's exactly what they are. Emo people don't care for fitting in, or resembling the crowd. The same thing will go with their clothing, style of accessories, like bags and shoes, and music. As mentioned above, being emo is a state of mind. You probably won't see a person with an emo hairstyle and a mainstream designer bag or pair of shoes. As a matter of fact, emo people will probably stay away from these things as much as possible!

While anything can go in an emo hairstyle, there is only one rule that emo people will follow, whether they are looking for a hairstyle, clothing, shoes, bags, or music. 'Don't follow the crowd.'
